Fawkner Kindergarten is located at 5 Lee Street, Fawkner. While we have only been at this location for under 10 years, we have been educating Fawkner's young children for over 25 years. In our team we have three qualified kindergarten teachers and five qualified co-educators. We offer a play based, emergent curriculum that is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. We are overseen by a volunteer Parent Committee of Management and we encourage all families, new or old to join this committee as you get to have a real influence over the kindergarten and how we run. We are also one of the few independent, community run kindergartens operating in Melbourne!
At Fawkner Kindergarten we pride ourselves on our ability to include and celebrate all children from all walks of life. Our staff and children come from diverse backgrounds: culturally, linguistically, socio-economically, as well as from different religions and abilities. We make it our mission to celebrate all meaningful holidays to our children and staff each year and we are always seeking to learn more from families about the occasions that are important to them.
Furthermore, we are a kindergarten interested in our community, and we are part of many programs that aim to better the lives and education of the children we teach. We have developed a partnership with the University of Melbourne that sees us host student teachers from the Master of Teaching course every year. We also understand the importance of research in the field of early childhood. We have participated in several studies over the years and have committed to participating in more. The staff gain invaluable knowledge and perspective that allow us to provide a rich and engaging program, and our sector benefits from learning more about the development of children. We believe this benefit is felt by everyone, as our future is undeniably in children.
